“Ten years ago, the West Bank was calm, Israel was enjoying a sense of confidence. The breakdown of talks and the second intifada revealed that this was an illusion. It would be tragic if history were to repeat itself.”

CGA’s Senior Fellow Alon Ben-Meir has contributed an op-ed to The Jerusalem Post on the danger of Israel slipping into a state of complacency. He suggests that Israel’s relatively calm security situation and strong economic performance is causing the country to experience a “mirage of invincibility” reminiscent of ten years ago. He argues that the peace process must remain a priority. “Without a viable peace process, the Palestinians will have nothing to lose, while Israel has everything to lose. This is a formula for disaster which must be upended before the dream of invincibility devolves into a nightmare.”
